Questions we hear a lot
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of services does One on One Personal Homecare Services provide?
We specialize in 24-hour, live-in care only, providing caregiving companions who work directly for the client. Our personal homecare services are designed to assist seniors with challenging tasks, activities, and routines. We offer our clients the opportunity to remain in their homes, leading independent lifestyles with dignity. They’re safe, healthy, and happy, surrounded by all that’s familiar to them. Services are customized case by case but may include fall prevention, medication/fluid reminders, light housekeeping, grooming and/or bathing assistance, running errands, and more.
What does the term “aging in place” mean?
“Aging in place” refers to the ability of any person to grow old in their own home or that of their family. It is the opposite of institutional residential care, such as nursing home care. Sometimes, it may mean the ability, with extra help, to stay in an assisted living facility as well.
Do you provide services in assisted living facilities?
Yes. We’ve found that seniors sometimes discover the limited assistance provided in their assisted living facility is not sufficient. The service is simply not enough to maintain a fairly independent lifestyle away from home. In these cases, One on One Personal Homecare Services provides a qualified caregiver to meet specific needs and offer companionship. Our caregivers ensure the client’s health, happiness, and overall well-being while in the assisted living facility.
How quickly can home care services be provided/started?
After you contact us, services can generally be provided within a 24- to 48-hour period. But in some cases, we’ve begun care on the same day. We respect time-sensitive circumstances and do our best to accommodate and assist you quickly.
How do I start in home care services with One on One Personal Homecare Services?
We will have our staff come to your home and conduct a free, no-obligation assessment. Ours is a personalized and customizable approach. We will then, at your direction, identify caregivers
who have the skills, personality, and availability to assist you. We have 18 years of experience in the industry, matching our wonderful clients with qualified caregivers who complement clients’ requirements, routines, and expectations.
How will I know my caregivers are reliable?
You can depend on One on One to manage our roster of caregivers responsibly. This takes the stress of searching and hiring off of you or your family. We are responsible for staffing, background checks, and preplacement drug testing. Further, you do not have to worry if a caregiver is going to show up. Our off-care workers serve as a qualified and capable backup force.
How will I know my caregivers are trustworthy?
We only hire experienced and excellent caregivers. We run complete background checks on every new caregiver, and we conduct quarterly checks with the Employee Misconduct Registry and CNA licensing board. All of our live-in companions are a part of our team because they honestly love what they do. Live-in senior care is their life calling. They boast outstanding character and work references from previous clients, agencies, and healthcare institutions, as well as volunteer and/or religious organizations.
We’re also proactive. From the start, we work with you and your caregivers to ensure everyone is protected. Further, our founder and owner, Becky Crabtree, is hands-on and personable with all involved. She knows every client. She knows every caregiver. These bonds and relationships between owner/client and owner/caregiver hold our roster of One on One companions accountable.
What happens if my caregiver’s quarterly background check reflects poorly on their character?
If anything at all surfaces in the quarterly check, you will be notified immediately. You will receive the report yourself. Founder and owner, Becky Crabtree, insists on being transparent at all times. She will update you regarding the character and qualifications of your caregivers.
Can we exchange caregiver if they’re not a match?
Exchanging a caregiver is never a problem, we have a large roster of caregivers and easily make an exchange.
How much does One on One in-home care services cost?
Please reach out to us. We pride ourselves on being your affordable nursing home alternative. Contracts vary case by case due to specific requirements. We customize your homecare plan.
That said, our services are based on contract rates rather than hourly ones. This typically saves our clients thousands of dollars each year.
Will I have the same caregivers?
Yes. Continuity of care is one of our main goals. It’s one of the reasons we’re different. Our 24-hour, live-in caregivers do not operate in 8-hour shifts as with most agencies where it’s common to have 4-5 caregivers in a given week. One on One companions live with you. They provide around-the-clock service. They bond with you and share in conversation, meals, and hobbies. The same caregiver who tells you goodnight will be there to say good morning. Our caregivers work a 7-day on/7-day off rotation.
Can we exchange the caregiver if we’re not a match?
Exchanging a caregiver is never a problem. We have a large roster of caregivers, and we can easily make adjustments if required. We’re here to serve you and see to it that you’re happy in your own home.
What happens if my caregiver gets sick or is suddenly unable to work?
Your caregiver will notify the One on One office. We will then locate the nearest available and qualified caregiver to fill in for them. Our off-duty caregivers work as fill-ins if your assigned caregiver is unable to be there. These situations occur from time to time, but rest assured: we have a vast roster of highly-skilled caregivers ready to step in when needed.
If your caregiver is on duty when illness strikes, they will wear a mask and limit interaction with you as you wait for your fill-in to arrive. Your on-the-clock caregiver will not leave until the fill-in caregiver has arrived and is oriented.
Do caregivers bring their own food?
No. Part of One on One caregivers’ compensation is room and board. When meals are prepared, they make enough for themselves. They eat what the client eats, and they share meals together. An exception would be if the caregiver is on a special diet. In that case, your caregiver would bring their own food.
Will the caregivers care for my pet?
If there is a pet in the home, caregivers will feed and water them. Pets should be housetrained, but caregivers are not responsible for housetraining. Nor for excessive cleaning if the pet is not housetrained. Caregivers will also keep your pet out of your path as you move about your home. This ensures you’re safe, avoiding accidental trips, falls, and even injuries to yourself or to your pet.
Will caregivers do errands and/or take me to church?
Yes. Caregivers can run errands and do your weekly shopping. The client must be able to safely evacuate in case of an emergency if they’re left home alone. If clients cannot safely exit on their own, the 7-day on “incoming” caregiver will arrive early for shopping and errands, as the 7-day off “outgoing” caregiver remains with the client. This is discussed ahead of time and noted in the customized care plan.
If a client wishes to attend church, caregivers will bring proper attire for services. However, please note: caregivers are not required to attend services with you. Your caregiver may wait in the lobby if they wish.
Can my caregiver give medications?
Yes. We’re a non-medical agency. We work directly for the client, under their guidance and instruction. All assigned caregivers are permitted to assist you with medications. Likely, this will be part of your customized in-home care plan. If you need help picking up your capsules/tablets and placing them in your mouth, caregivers can step in. If you’re shaky or feeling weak, they can hold a cup of water so you can swallow with ease.
